From the Testing-One-Two Dept
Fighting with Radio and how it's not updating the front page. Lemme just try something here...

From the If-I-Only-Had-A-Super...Computer Dept
ADC | PowerPC G5 Performance Tuning

Interesting gotcha's included, such as this line:

Scalar type conversion is never good for performance on PPC because it requires memory accesses. On the G5, the problem is magnified because stores followed by a load of the same address cause a dispatch group rejection and flush. This bubble can severely hamper high-performance code.

If you must convert from float to integer or vice-versa in performance-critical code, consider padding the code with nops to separate the load from the previous store.

Fascinating.

From the Woh-It's-News Dept:
Mac DevCenter | Tale of Two Conferences

Talking about MacHack and the craziness it is.

I bought back a MacHack mug (from MacHack 14). However, I'm out of caffeine, so I've been putting water in it. It feels like blaspheme - the mug even says, right on it, Coffee and Code Since 1818.

If I had a digital camera I would take a picture, 'cause I'm sure you'd all like a peek at my mug.

From the I-Hate-AIM Dept
Dear people who think i'm someone else on AIM:

I don't lie to people on AIM. When I say I'm not the person who you think I am, I'm telling the truth.

At least two separate groups of people think they know me. They're so utterly convinced that they call me names when I tell them I'm not. They get all frustrated at me when I say that I'm not.

I find it both amusing and frustrating. If it gets too frustrating I block them. Hehehe....
