From the NeXT-Exchange
Daring Fireball | The Good, The Bad, and the Avie

Interesting insights. But yes: since NeXT acquired Apple Apple bought NeXT, there have been many more projects that have seen frutation.

Let's think here. In between System 7 and System 8 were the following projects (that I can remember):

  • OpenDoc
  • Pink/Tangent
  • Speech Recognition
  • QuickDraw 3D
  • Copland
  • FireWire
FireWire is on this list 'cause even though it took off, it took 10 years for Apple to get off it's rear ends and use it.

I've got some Develop magazines somewhere that proclaim that FireWire will be the wave of the future, the next big thing only 2(???) years down the road - in 1995.

But, since NeXT took over, Apple's been shipping stuff. Like OS X.
