Well, gotta start somewhere.  I got a response from Google about my inquiry to develop to their XML interface. I will be sure to send them a *detailed* proposal. After hell freezes over.  [Scripting News]

This is definately one way to avoid the patent law bullshit.  NY Times: "Rather than spend time and money to patent the idea, Plantronics posted a description of it on IP.com, a Web site that enables inventors to establish an idea's legal existence — a concept known as prior art in patent law. By putting its design in the public domain, Plantronics sought to prevent competitors from patenting it."  [Scripting News]

Admittedly, mine needs alot of work.  Doc Searls: "If it's a fact that most blogs suck, it is neither a useful nor an interesting one. Unless you're writing a story about why blogs suck." Amen.  [Scripting News]

We live in a sick, sick world.  That's why I like my distance sometimes.  A picture named mission.gifSo many people I know bought California Lottery tickets last week. With the jackpot at $193 million, I guess people wanted a chance to make all that money. I wondered why, so I asked. "Oh I'd give money to all my friends," one friend said to me. "They'd hate you then," I said. She didn't get it. Perhaps it doesn't make sense at first, but then I heard a report on KCBS, they were interviewing people at the Half Moon Bay supermarket where one of the winning tickets was sold. "What would you do if a friend of yours won?" the reporter asked. "I'd kill them," blurted the woman he was interviewing. I'm sure she wouldn't actually kill the person, but the anger sounded real. I suppose if someone earns their wealth the hatred isn't as deep, but most people don't really think anyone earns that much money, not like you earn a paycheck or a diploma. And of course the lottery is pure luck. That much money divides you from almost everyone you know. In a sense, that's what money is for, to buy distance. That's why so many rich people are unhappy.  [Scripting News]

Cool!  You should check out the National Museum of Cryptological Science if you're ever on the highway between Baltimore and Washington.  It's essentially the museum of the National Security Agency.  CNN.com - The secret's out . CIA showcases array of spy gadgets at Reagan Presidential Library

SIMI VALLEY, California (AP) -- For the first time, the public is getting a large scale view of the CIA's and KGB's real-life James Bond gadgets, from a replica of the Russians' deadly poison-dart umbrella to some of the Amercians' most ingeniously concealed cameras.

The exhibit, which opened to the public Sunday at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, includes dozens of items borrowed from the CIA's collection in Langley, Va., many of them never before shown to the public.

So we've failed, eh?  While I enjoyed reading this article on MSNBC.com regarding our failure to insert alot of ground forces in order to capture Osama Bin Laden, I'm reminded of what GWB has said many times - "Bin Laden is not the goal of this war, conquering terror is."..  Keep your eyes on the prize.  Grounding the airborne

Blah.    I like my Renaissance Festival Mugs - they're huge and hold alot of java!  A picture named 020217_coffee-cup_newtown.jpgThick coffee mugs. This is the kind of thick white coffee mug that so greatly distresses Victor. I suspect that he would find Dave's coffee mug perfectly acceptable (Dave's mug is made of thinner, whiter china than mine).

I've had this mug for more than twelve years and would be terribly upset if I accidentally broke it. Each time I travel to the US, I tell myself that I should buy a spare or two but I never seem to get around to it.

I just tried to find a supplier via Google and all I could turn up was the Jack Rabbit Coffee Cup ("A great thick coffee cup with the Jack Rabbit Trading Post Logo on the cup."). One wonders where they could put a logo other than on the cup.

We're certainly nowhere near bankruptcy.  But the article is interesting nonetheless.  I was plagued last year by a client that would not pay.  It was an individual we contracted with over the internet, and although we had a signed contract, we chose to write it off as bad debt after a few collection attempts.  Good article.  The End of the IOU - Minimizing Bad Debts. Are you plagued by bad debts? Have your customers' payments gone astray? Elena shows how to make your clients pay - and save your business from bankruptcy. [SitePoint]
