Whilst I'm looking at the nationalist angle, here are two more top Aussies bloggers. Everyone, say hello to Victor Echo Zulu and Deadly Bloody Serious. Play nice, their cricket team is having a bit of a bad patch.

Just been perusing some other weblogs and noticed that Allan Moult had an entry in his blog which eases my Google rank pain from earlier;

Blogger's Code

Better to write for yourself and have no public,
than to write for the public and have no self.
Cyril Connolly (1903 - 1974)

I feel better already. Whilst I'm here, G'day Allan from another Aussie - just don't let my Mum here me say that or I'll be in big trouble.

From [diveintomark];

The Register: Open source a needed outlet for programming pros [via Slashdot] "The chief motivations for donating time and effort to the open source community are varied, but include professional advancement; the need for mental stimulation; a personal belief that software ought to be open (not necessarily free); a chance to acquire new skills or refine existing ones; and practical needs for code which isn't commercially available." Based on a survey of Sourceforge project leaders.

Just the other day, I was explaining to my father (an economics professor) why so many of the best and the brightest of the commercial software industry spend their free time giving code away for free. This is, in a narrow view, economically irrational. Speaking only from my personal experience, I gave him many of the same reasons that this survey found. Glad to know I fit a stereotype.

I took part in this survey, does that mean I define a stereotype? Oh, the honour ;-)

Google ranking;

  • andy47: Thats me at numbers 1, 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8. I think I've got that term covered.
  • Andrew Todd: Not a sniff. Well, there might be but I got bored after looking at 120 or so entries. This is a bit of a disaster because I own the andrew-todd.com domain. If you go there your web browser title will change to 'Andrew Todd' and I'm still too insignificant for Google. A chap could get a complex.
  • 99% of Gargoyles. Number 1 points to this web page.

I think I need to do some work on "Andrew Todd". Other than that I'm pretty easy to find on the web. As an exercise it certainly beats writing release notes.

Todays word of the day

postprandial [Dictionary.com Word of the Day]

I always used to enjoy a postprandial ciggy, but then I gave up. Still a good word though.

11:28:44 AM

From [diveintomark];

Mac wxPython. Kevin Altis says that the wxPython project needs developers for their Macintosh port. Don't just sit there, go get started.

That Kevin gets around a bit. Not content with mentions on scripting news he is now showing up on diveintomark, one of my favourite web logs. Just bear in mind that the mention on Kevin's blog is to help make PythonCard more multi platform. Which brings us back to me.

Today I have several things to talk about, but first Cheese Racing [courtesy of MeFi].
