Meetings retrospect

In Monday's list (from the wee hours of "Sunday night") I listed a few meetings; it didn't include the SVJUG meeting that I mentioned on Thursday (wee hours of "Wednesday"). So I did make it to all of them, plus a bonus one. Whee. This past night's SVCS general meeting was a talk/demo about setting up a home network. Naturally, the speaker just assumed Windows machines, didn't even mention Linux or Mac as far as I know (I cut out early). I couldn't help thinking of the blank stares of the crowd in the 1984 Macintosh commercial.

(He did mention Unix in general, though. Once.)

From [kuro5hin.org]:

Open Standards Update. Programming language standards act as contract between the programmer and the compiler & library vendor. If you write code, either professionally, or as a hobby, you probably want it to conform to an open standard. Read on for a selection of small (mostly good) news items concerning various open programming standards.
