The Illusion of a Rural Lifestyle
When they see the chickens, guests sometimes ask why we keep them. We don't eat any of the chickens we raise, and we rarely eat the eggs. My answer is that we keep them in order to get the illusion of a rural lifestyle.
We have a whole ecosystem in the yard: expired veggies from the fridge get fed to the chickens. Dirt from the chicken yard goes into the compost heap, which feeds the veggie beds ...
In other news, I can't believe it but we got the whole garage "refactored" into the attic, the closed shed in back (which we were calling "the studio shed" for a while, but now it's too full of stuff to use), and the dump/recyclery. Our roommate is moving in this week.
I won't be posting here for a few days.
(Went away for the week of Memorial Day.)
