New Year's Evestern Standard Tribe
I have/had a weblog on Phil P's http://pycs.net Python community server.
It's down at the moment, but I snagged (from archive.org) a post that
normally lives at http://www.pycs.net/zia/2003/1/17/ ... my previous post
reminded me of it.
Cory Doctorow ... has written a novel called "Eastern Standard Tribe".
That phrase describes people around the world who live on Eastern Standard
Time so that they can participate remotely in whatever business-things
business-type people do in the business world.
Living on the US West Coast, I'm a member of the Eastern Standard Tribe on
exactly one day each year: New Year's Eve. That way, on years when I care
about it, I can watch the Times Square festivities at 9:00 pm my local time
and then go to bed.
So ... the gala at the Aquarium this past weekend was quite an unusual way
for us (my wife, her youngest sister, and me) to spend a New Year's Eve.
(Is it cheating to make two weblog posts, either side of midnight?)
