Pombo projected to lose in California

From email from the Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund, "There were plenty of talking heads in Washington, DC, who said it couldn't be done. But together we did it: We beat America's #1 Wildlife Villain and made history!

"Early this morning, CNN projected a decisive victory for Jerry McNerney -- an independent businessman and avowed conservationist -- over Representative Richard Pombo, Chairman of the powerful House Resources Committee.

"This is the most important political victory for conservationists in memory."

Across the west this morning, there were reports of bears coming out of hibernation and doing the "Jerry McNerney Boogie."

Congratulations to governor-elect Bill Ritter. The other races are not so clear yet as Denver County has not reported complete results as of 6:54 a.m. Here's a recap from the Rocky Mountain News. From the article, "A big blue wave rolled across the country Tuesday, washing away the Republican majority in the United States House of Representatives, sweeping a Democrat into the Colorado Governor's Mansion and handing the Democratic Party big gains up and down the ballot. Voter anger toward President Bush and the war in Iraq fueled a backlash against the GOP's grip on power in Congress and beyond, and Colorado mirrored the national trend. Democrats took back the majority of governorships nationwide, and Democrat Bill Ritter swept aside Republican U.S. Rep. Bob Beauprez in Colorado. The night saw a dramatic shift in Colorado's political landscape. The state is sending more Democrats than Republicans to Congress for the first time since 1982."

Colorado Confidential and ToTheRight.org are both following the results closely.

Amendment 44 was defeated by a large margin, while Amendment 43 has passed.

We're still watching and waiting.
