TalkLeft: "Thanks to Suburban Guerilla, Mark Crispin Miller and Save the USA for pointing out Section 605 of the House version of the Patriot Act renewal legislation. It calls for the creation of a Federal Police Force."

Colorado Lib: "...this paragraph in Molly Ivins CNN anti-triangulation editorial deserves to be passed around. Ivins was blasting Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and other Democrats who shift right in an effort to appear 'centrist.' She points out that sticking up for liberal ideals shouldn't be difficult."

Josh Marshall: "This passage is from a March 2003 article in The Hill in which Jack Abramoff describes how the Bush administration is so relentlessly clean that it's made the lobbyist's job far harder than it was under Clinton ..."

Put on your Big Girl Panties and Deal with it: "Today, January 22, 2006, I'm going to do something that will surprise some of you. It may shock some of you. It certainly has the potential to disappoint, offend and even upset some of you. While I will be sorry if you are disappointed, I hope that you won't stop reading this blog entirely. I also hope you will respect what I have to say.

"Today marks the 33rd anniversary of the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision. As an avid reader of Feministing.com, when I saw the open call for bloggers to participate in their Blog for Choice Day, I knew it was time.

"Today I am 'coming out,' as it were, as a person who supports the Pro-Choice Movement. You should understand that it has taken me a very, very long time to come to this conclusion. I wrestled with conflicting feelings about morality and social justice for many years because I was a person who would never want to have an abortion, and who would never counsel my friends and/or loved ones to do so unless absolutely necessary.

"I know what many of you who know me must be thinking...how could I, who am now 7 months pregnant...how could I feel this way? I can assure you that it has been with significant consideration, research and introspection that I have reached this position. Let me explain..."

Bull Moose: "Two former elected officials are seeking to remake themselves in order to run for President of the United States. They both probably have a photo of the patron saint of political do-overs, Richard Nixon, on their night stands. They should debate each other. The first is Al Gore. He is remaking himself as the tribune of the left and the heart-throb of the netroots. This once centrist New Democrat is attempting to recreate himself as the second coming combination of William Jennings Bryan and Henry Wallace. His speech the other day about the impending end of the republic set the lefties into an orgasm of ecstasy. The other re-make is brother Newt. He is running as a born-again reformer who is seeking to reverse the betrayal of his revolution. In his second coming, the Newster is resolutely bi-partisan and opposed to the 'politics of destruction'. Now, that's chutzpah for you."

Captains Quarters: "The President won election twice, and at least during the last election, Supreme Court nominations clearly were a major issue. He has the mandate of the election to pick the ideological bent of the replacements for any opening on the Court; there is no quota system for leftists, centrists, and conservatives, nor have Presidents been particularly apt at guessing which categories their nominees would fill in the long run anyway. Bush's two elections show that the people want a more conservative court -- so as long as the Times considers ideology a basis for selection, then a conservative judge should be the most acceptable as a manifestation of the demand of the people." Really?
