The Rocky Mountain News is running an article about the negotiations between Denver officials and Re-Create '68. From the article:

A city councilman expressed outrage today that the council will consider a proclamation initially drafted by a protest group that calls for restricting police tactics during the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver. The one-page proclamation headed for a council vote next Monday is based on a compromise version of the original statement proposed by the Recreate 68 Alliance, which is organizing protests for the 2008 Denver convention.

"I think it's amazing that any can special interest group -- right-wing or left-wing -- can tell the Denver Police Department and the mayor and City Council how to run our city when it comes to dealing with the protesters at the DNC," Councilman Charlie Brown said, adding he "absolutely" opposes the proclamation. "I have complete faith in (Denver Police Chief) Gerry Whitman and the police department is sworn to uphold the First Amendment and it will continue to do so," said Brown, stressing his support for the right to peacefully protest. But he added that "Chicago had a black eye for decades after what happened" and he fears that protesters seeking restrictions on police tactics and crowd-control barricades could "want to close our city down and take over."

Here's an article about the melting rate of the Bering Glacier from the Alaska Report. They write:

New measurements have confirmed that North America's largest glacier has been melting away about twice as fast as scientists previously thought. The immense Bering Glacier - which covers more than 2,000 square miles on Alaska's "lost coast" between Prince William Sound and Yakutat - has been spewing more than seven cubic miles of water into the Gulf of Alaska each season, according to calculations by Robert Shuchman, co-director of the Michigan Tech Research Institute (MTRI). That's about 1.1 trillion gallons of water, more than twice the volume found in the Colorado River system, Shuchman said. It's about 20 times the annual flow of the Yukon River, based on an annual estimate of 225,000 cubic feet per second...

Famous for its sudden surges that can overtake and flatten new growth, the Bering Glacier extends about 120 miles into Alaska's coastal mountains, and once covered more than 2,000 square miles (about 80 percent the size of the state of Delaware.) But the glacier has been retreating up to 10 miles per year.

Live Science: "At least 400 species of birds could become endangered within the next 50 years as a result of global warming and changes in land use, a new study finds. Climate change and the destruction of habitats through deforestation and the conversion of grassland to cropland have already pushed many species to extinction, and the process will only accelerate over the next century, the authors of the study said. The extinction count grows much higher at the turn of the next century, they said."

U.S. Representative Tom Tancredo is warning his Republican colleagues in the U.S. Senate that he will work to unseat any of them that vote for the current immigration bill, according to the Rocky Mountain News. From the article, "Rep. Tom Tancredo is threatening to work to unseat any Republican U.S. senator who votes for a pending immigration bill he considers 'amnesty.' Before a Republican presidential debate in New Hampshire on Tuesday, Tancredo, R-Littleton, plans to announce a 'Save America' campaign that he hopes will pressure fellow Republicans into opposing a plan to grant millions of illegal immigrants a way to stay in the country legally."

Diana DeGette on Monday stood with five mothers of military servicemen who have served or are serving in the Middle East and vowed to renew the fight to bring U.S. troops home as soon as possible. DeGette and members of Military Families Speak Out said they support two bills that would redeploy U.S. troops out of Iraq."
