Colorado Water
The recent decision by the Environmental Protection Agency to include a part of the Dolores river as "impaired" is the subject of this article from the Cortez Journal. From the article, "In its first meeting since the EPA overturned a March decision by the state's Water Quality Control Commission not to list the Dolores as impaired, the conservancy's attorney Janice Sheftel acknowledged the state and the control commission would challenge the EPA decision on a legal basis...The EPA based the listing on a declining fish population, and testimony from the Colorado Department of Wildlife and Trout Unlimited, which hinted of high water temperatures, sediment imbalance and high nutrient levels affecting fish counts in the river...Saletta said the EPA believes the waters to be polluted, while the conservancy's (Dolores Water Conservancy District) stance is that any problems in the Dolores are drought related."
