Denver November 2004 Election

The Colorado Supreme Court plans to had down their ruling on last spring's redistricting on Monday, according to the Rocky Mountain News [November 29, 2003, "Redistricting ruling due Monday"]. Both Democrats and Republicans have been waiting for the ruling before launching campaigns in earnest. They need to be sure of the district boundaries. From the article, "The issue before the court was whether the redistricting map pushed through the Legislature by Republicans this year is illegal. Colorado's constitution calls for redistricting only once a decade and Democrats contend the task was completed by a Denver judge in 2002 after lawmakers failed to agree on new boundaries. Republicans contend the map drawn by the judge was temporary and the law requires redistricting work to be done by the Legislature. Democrats want the Republican maps thrown out and the old maps restored. The court fight could have major implications, with Republicans now holding five of the state's seven congressional seats. Democrats hope to pick up two of those seats _ if they win the court fight."
