Denver November2004 Election
Neither Ken Salazar nor Peter Coors served in Vietnam, according to the Rocky Mountain News [August 31, 2004, "War offered lesson for Senate candidates"]. From the article, "By the time Salazar was an 18-year-old freshman at Colorado College in 1973, the draft had ended. Coors signed up for the Colorado Air National Guard in 1969, the year he graduated from Cornell University, but was turned away because of a kidney problem. He went to graduate school at the University of Denver, instead. Both candidates for Colorado's open U.S. Senate seat say they have an understanding of the storm that tore the nation apart then - and has re-emerged in the 2004 presidential race. Both say Vietnam had lessons that will guide them if they have to vote on issues of war and peace."
