Denver November 2004 Election

Last day to register to vote in the fall election - October 4th. Early voting starts October 18th. Voters can check to see if they are registered at this website. Thanks to the Denver Post for the link.

Here's an article about Amendment 34 from the Rocky Mountain News [September 23, 2004, "Builder amendment clings to small lead"]. From the article, "Amendment 34, which would make it easier for homeowners to sue builders for perceived construction defects, has a slight lead among voters, according to a Rocky Mountain News/News 4 poll...44 percent of those polled said they would vote for it, in contrast to 41 percent who oppose it."

Here's a background piece about Amendment 34 from the Rocky [September 23, 2004, "Ballot battle gets heated over contractor lawsuits"].

The Rocky Mountain News editorial staff is urging voters to pass Referendum A [September 23, 2004, "State personnel system needs an overhaul"]. From the editorial, "While many proposed constitutional amendments make the serious error of putting into the constitution matters that are best left to the legislature, this one sensibly moves in the opposite direction. Referendum A takes out of the constitution matters that should be under the legislature's control so the state can adapt to changing circumstances."

Here's a roundtable discussion about Amendment 35 from the Rocky Mountain News [September 23, 2004, "Weeding out the tobacco tax pros, cons"].

The Denver Post reports that Ken Salazar leads Peter Coors 46% to 45% according to a Pueblo Chieftain poll conducted by Ciruli and Associates [September 23, 2004, "Poll: Bush has 12-point lead over Kerry in Colorado"]. From the article, "The same poll also found Democratic Attorney General Ken Salazar and Republican Pete Coors are in a virtual dead heat in the race for Colorado's open Senate seat: Salazar was the choice of 46 percent to 45 percent for Coors."
