Russian Warnings To Irag Begin The Security Council Negotiations

Russia Warns Iraq to Comply or Face Consequences. Russia warned Baghdad today to cooperate with U.N. Security Council resolutions or face the consequences. By Reuters. [New York Times: NYT HomePage]

"European Union delegates said Ivanov was open to a tough resolution but was firmly opposed to any military action. "They are not to going to give anything away before they have to," said one Western diplomat. But he said Moscow was more conciliatory in private talks with American officials. "

Watch for all of the intrique and discussion held in the strangest of places. And with the strangest of things said. And not said. The negotiation between nations has begun.

People Actually Do Listen To The New Jazz Thing

I got calls from Mark in Chula Vista and Helena in Cardiff to prove it. Helena got the full treatment with Miles saying hi on the air after dropping by for family radio time. Thanks for listening.

And Miles had the best reaction to coming down to the station...

Miles: Where are all the people?
VO: What people?
Miles: The people listening to the show.

What a conceptual leap to see that Daddy talks to a microphone. Not in front of a lot of people. There are some things to ponder here.

Put On A Happy Face

First "smiley" shows its face. A Microsoft researcher apparently rediscovers the first known computerized instance of the combination of characters used to signify a smile in e-mail and on bulletin boards. [CNET News.com]

"The first use of the characters :-) to signify a smile was, believes Jones, in a posting made on Sept. 19, 1982, by Scott E. Fahlman."

Something silly to start the day!

[After kid lunches and thoughts on smiling...] I never use emoticons (the official name for those smiley/face things). Not to say I never will, but they're just not me. I just never got caught up in it when they first starting appearing year ago. I guess I think they're kind of juvenile or too much trouble or too many people use them and I just don't want to be part of the crowd. Ah...he admits it. They're kind of too...smiley.
