This article in the New Your Times says that an Andy Warhol retrospective is coming to the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art at the end of the month. I guess I know what my next trip is gonna be....
When I first encountered a large Picasso exhibition (Picasso and Portraiture, MoMA, 1996) I did not like Picasso. I thought all his works looked too much alike and that he was a publicity hound. After the show, I was a Picasso-phile. His portraits (mostly of women) show subtle yet powerful variation. For example a pair of images made, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon, in the same position, but with two different sitters shows the emotional basis on which we all base our human relationships. And the colors were nice.
I am hoping the Warhol exhibition will similarly inspire.
