New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd opines about covering up a huge tapestry of Picasso's Guernica. A quick check of Google news turns up articles that blame Powell, etal. for not wanting to appear to be warmongering in front of this twentieth century monument to the horrors of war against civillians.
They've got it all wrong. Picasso's painting (brilliant use of monochrome by the way) isn't about war at all, but rather about oil. The horse in the center of the picture is screaming at the light bulb because his electric bill is too high. If we were able to get cheap oil from Afghanistan and Iraq, the horse would be much happier.
