War News:

The New York Times published this picture (I have resized, cropped, removed lettering and sharpened it) as a background to Patrick Tyler's travelog about yesterday's drive-bys in south central Baghdad:

First thing I noticed was all the stuff on fire - hellish. The snake shape on the right of the picture is the Tigris River, the banks of which are the birthplace of our civilization.

The terrain around Baghdad appears to be similar to Phoenix or Las Vegas. A description in the Times article of an accident with a family driving in their car was so surreally familiar to what real life on the freeway is like, that I could not help but put myself in the scene.
