Is GNOME 2.0 the open source desktop environment I described earlier in the week? Can it be done?
The key bit in the article for me is: "Comprised of hundreds of volunteer developers and industry-leading companies, the GNOME Foundation is an organization committed to supporting the advancement of GNOME." (Emphasis mine.) There are a number of big companies contributing to this. I didn't know that.
But are they concentrating people so they can work closely together, arguably a key ingredient for developing a truly cohesive desktop environment like Apple has? Looks like they have concentrations in Boston and Chicago, with QA in Mexico City.
Hmm.
