Supreme Court nixes copyright challenge [http://news.com.com/2100-1023-980792.html?part=dht&tag=nhl>News.com]
This is very bad news. The constitution clearly states that copyrights will be for "a limited time." And the time period they have been extended to is not consistent with that or with public benefit by any reasonable way of thinking. Copyright law is intended to "promote the progress of science and useful arts," according to the Constitution. But benefits that accrue only long after the creator is dead are unlikely to provide much motivation. So the court's decision isn't consistent with the clearly stated intentof the Constitution. At least there are dissenters on the court.
