Take a look at Clay Shirky's article, The Music Business and the Big Flip. He describes, exactly, what is needed in the music industry today.

What he doesn't know is that it already exists. Emergent Music is it. Or, more accurately, EM will be it when it reaches critical mass. We need more users in order for it to fully do the job it was meant to do. We need more raters and more recommendations and more improvements to recommendations.

It's been a bit difficult because there is so much hype and noise in the online music industry today. It's very difficult for the average person to distinguish something truly new from one more me-too recommendation system. But EM isn't a recommendation system at all. It is a system to, in Shirky's words, "pass the highest ranked recommendations on to progressively larger pools of judgment," in order to separate the wheat from the chaff. This is what is needed in the music industry today. We can do it. Help us attain critical mass by rating and writing on EM. And write us with any suggestions you may have for improving the site and/or bringing it to the attention of more people.

Emergent Music had a couple of glitches after a fundamental upgrade to our basic Oracle database structure. The search and discussion functions weren't working. Those are fixed now!
