Altnet is suing companies using a hash to identify digital files. Kazaa has a license. [News.com]
I'm not sure, because I haven't looked at the patent yet, but I suspect that this should worry the MusicBrainz folks.

today (June 5, 2003) about how to get independent artists into the
iTunes Music Store. There were about 150 people there, representatives
from the best independent record labels and music services, in this
