Tim O'Reilly The lesson of the dot-com boom is actually the opposite of the one that people are taking. It's not "figure out your business model first," it's "don't get greedy; give the market time to mature before you rush to cash out."

James Snell says that I've confused the issue a bit. It seems that I'm in good company as apparently it is also not clear to Sanjiva Weerawarana (co-author of WSDL 1.1 and lead for WSDL 1.2) that WSDL 1.1 is adequate to expain such services. Meanwhile, where in James's WSDL does it describe the Round 2 Base tests?

As Simon and Peter have blogged, we have been working with Mark Baker and Paul Prescod on a RESTful SOAP 1.2 implementation of Simon's SOAP 1.1 interop registry. It is nice to see Paul and I agree on something. The only thing I will add to Peter's random observations is that at times a resource modelling approach will result in a too fine grained a model and require more round trips than alternatives. Some evidence of this is showing in this small example.
