British doctor says "Medicine in my country is so
advanced that we can take a brain out of one man,
put it in another and have him looking for work in
six weeks."
A German doctor says, "That's nothing, we can take a
brain out of one person, put it in another and have
him preparing for war in four weeks.
The American doctor, not to be outdone, says, "You
guys are way behind, we just took a man with no
brain out of Texas, put him in the White House, and
now half the country is looking for work, and the
other half preparing for war."

The second lesson. I was going to get up and watch the Shuttle re-enter the atmosphere this morning, but forgot to set the alarm. Instead, a few minutes ago, I got a call from my sister, whose voice sounded just like it did when she called before dawn on September 11, 2001. Now I'm sitting here with a six year old boy who loves aviation and space travel, talking about what happened to Columbia, and how something so adventurous and wonderful could end so badly. It's been almost exactly seventeen years since the last Shuttle disaster. Not long afterwards I wrote Accidental Lessons: Reflections on the Challenger Tragedy. I'm sure we'll learn from this one too. [The Doc Searls Weblog]

Confusing thoughts watching what happened with the Space Shuttle Columbia. First of all, seven crew members dead, may they rest in peace. One was from Israel, there will be talk of terrorism, but I doubt it. There are easier explanations. Memories of the Challenger disaster, will (cold) weather be involve again this time? Feynman is no longer with us, who would be so bold to take his place?
