Windows OS traps politician in limo, rescued by sledgehammer. Hugh says: "It seems that the Thai Finance Minister's fancy BMW limo crashed today, trapping him and his driver inside for ten minutes until they were rescued by a sledge-hammer wielding security guard. Well, it wasn't actually his car that crashed, just the onboard computer system."
"It appears that Mr Jaovisidha narrowly missed being killed by the blue windscreen of death." [Boing Boing Blog] I knew this would happen. I think Microsoft License (EULA) clearly states that its software shouldn't be use for critical applicactions. Guess what, BMW? Driving is critical!

Hacking 2003: The new agenda. Zone Labs CEO Gregor Freund says hackers are shifting their focus from committing acts of cybervandalism toward carrying out more targeted attacks. Can they be stopped? [CNET News.com]
I have seen this happen. A targeted attack is impossible to stop. Normal measures won't work. You need a special employee whose job is just reading logs all day to detect one of these attacks, provided the attacker doesn't use physical means... I have seen hard disks stolen, without the owners ever finding out, I have seen a computer infected by a presumed presentation with a taylor made malware. Hard to control...

Apple Should have Released The Music Store for Windows First. All that is going to happen now is what has always happened to Apple, some other company, a la... [This Week's Links Page] The article is clueless and so are most of the comments. This is the same type of argument that says "Apple should lower prices." Without knowing Apple's price structure this is just an empty advice. Could have Apple release the Windows version of iMS? I don't think so. Neither can Microsoft, not soon anyway. The work that has to be done just to put the information in a database is very hard. Even if the labels are giving everything in digital form, which I doubt. The assumption that every Apple product gets, successfully, copied is also wrong. Some have, but some haven't (Where is the iPod clone? Where is the iMac (old or new) clone?). They try, sure, but they don't succeed. At the end the reason is that the people that want the kind of features Apple provides buy from Apple, while other ignore both Apple and the clone attempts because they are not interested. Same thing with the music store, it will make a huge splash when it comes to Windows (like the iPod did), even if there are imitators on the scene they will not be a smooth as Apple, and the Windows version won't be as good as the mac version.
On another point, I am impressed with the amount of negative criticism that the iMS has drawn. There was even a proposal to divide Apple claiming the shareholders weren't happy.. Have you check on Apple stock lately? It has gone up almost 50% since the announcement of iMS... Even the clueless in Wall Street are starting to get it. How clueless do you have to be to have less clues than a Wall Street clueless?

Last call for OSXCON talk-proposals!. The deadline for the O'Reilly MacOS X conference proposals is drawing to a close. If you're thinking of submitting a talk for this excellent conference, now's the time to do it.
[Boing Boing Blog] This sounds like an awsome conference to go to. I wish I could present something. Or at least go to it...
