Is Apple The New Microsoft? [Slashdot:]
This is such a dumb article that is hard to know where to start. Microsoft is not only a monopolist, Apple is not, but they have been found to act illegally violating the antitrust act, of course no meaningful punishment was given, Apple has not. I can't believe people can't read the first amendment here is what says:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
So, as anyone can see, there is no way Apple can "deny first amendment rights" to anyone, only congress can violate the first amendment. Also, I do not understand when people say journalist have a "right to protect their sources." That is bullshit! If a court determines that the only way to find or convict a criminal is to reveal the sources they will do so! Yes, only as a final measure, but journalist have gone to jail for not revealing sources. So, no such right exist in the face of a crime committed. Clearly, in this case the judge believes a crime was committed against Apple. Hence, the decision.

Nerve Touching.

I think I’ve figured out why last week’s iPod FireWire cable hysteria struck such a nerve for certain Mac users. It’s an unfounded fear that as the iPod succeeds, the Macintosh will — somehow, in some unspecified but surely dreadful way — suffer.

Another good point from John. It made me realize how naive we are, when USB 2.0 came out we thought it wouldn't fly, Apple had made USB a success and it was coming strong with Firewire and Firewire 800 both of which are faster than USB 2.0. But economies of scale are what they are and USB 2.0 has won. Firewire will stay and be successful in its niche, but that is it.

F1: Fisichella in pole position. Renault's Giancarlo Fisichella goes quickest in Saturday qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix. [BBC News | News Front Page | UK Edition]

Of course the new rules make it very hard to discern what will happen... We'll see what happens tomorrow (actually today here). At any rate, the season doesn't really start until they head back to Europe.
