To Catch a Thief. In an age when credit and other account information seems to easily fall into the hands of thieves, merchants are fighting back against credit card fraud. By TOM ZELLER Jr.. [NYT > Technology] If the merchant will have to fight fraud he would have to be trusted with information and trustworthy. The big credit companies could stop fraud by requiring real security (e.g., a password for Card Not Present transactions, that is protected by current measures. It will be harder for the user, but security is a trade off). They have no incentive, neither does the user. So, the merchant has to step in. The software is interesting, but must merchants do not get access to the data. If your processor is not responsible for fraud, but forbids you to get information you are being set up for massive fraud.
