The problem underlying this discussion has its bases on two facts. First, the presume objectivity of the media, in which two sides have to be presented as equal even if they are not. Subtle clues like "mainstream scientist" are not enough. One should point out what are the leading journals and how many papers on intelligent design have been published on both. Second, the absolute relativism theory in which any two ideas have the same value. This is bullshit, but intellectuals have been ineffectual in their fight against it. Intelligent design can't be a scientific theory, because it doesn't explain much, is not falsifiable, and can't deal with the facts. Why are so many evolution clues if the design is intelligent?

One shouldn't worry about science, it always prevails. One should worry about countries like the US, current leaders in science, that may fall behind more and more. Somebody else will pick up the torch in science, much as the arab world did in the middle age (it was the "Dark Age" only for some). Science departments have to call this bluff, even if it is politically incorrect. Criticize the president and anyone undercutting what has truly made America powerful.
