Now they are saying Chavez is still on the naval base detained by Molina Tamayo...
11:57:04 PM

Aristobulo Isturiz is saying that there was a threat against the presidential palace. It was going to be blown up if he didn't give up. He made up his mind to give up but not resign, a lie from the opposition produce a blind siding of the public. That is a crime. Ironically, it also produced the down fall of the shortest "government" in history. All of us that thought that the people taking power were capable, were clearly deluded.
Chavez should arrive in a couple hours.

Where is Chavez?
That is the only question remaining. Officials are saying that there will be no revenge. I hope that is true for our own good and a possibility for Venezuela.

They are saying that there were snipers on the other side. It could be true. It is clear that both sides were lying...

It seems Union Radio did pass the news, I didn't hear it, even though I tried.
11:33:50 PM

Rumor has it that there are 14 dead from the events of today. We didn't see them because the TV and Radio stations refuse to show them. Maybe they were afraid, but at least they should have said something, even if they couldn't show images. My country is divided. I hope against hope that things improve.

Venezuelan Interim President Quits After One Day
``With full responsibility before the nation and the Venezuelan people, I present this resignation,'' Carmona told reporters after a turbulent day in which power slipped from his hands and troops loyal to Chavez seized control of the presidential palace.

One by one the TV stations are passing the signal of the official Channel. I still wondering if this country can be govern in this situation without violence.
10:56:01 PM

It seems that Chavez did not resign as was announced. Among others by Lucas Rincon an officer of Chavez' High Command. It was all a set up. I see no option now but the return of Chavez. The only question mark is what is the balance of the arm forces. If it, as it seems, belong to Chavez, then there is no point of doing more violence, which will only breed violence.
10:47:09 PM

Chavez will return today. They don't know how. How many people are leaving the country now? I don't even know how to do that, but I sure would like to... Anybody has a job out there?
10:39:46 PM

I hear explossions, but I am not sure if it is Chavez people celebrating or violence... I hope is the former.
10:36:35 PM

Diosdao Cabello is in the presidential palace. The Pro Chavez demonstrators have demanded that the surrounded television stations transmit their opinion, this they should have done of their own. They are saying they didn't because they were afraid.
I think I am going to stop blogging for a while.
9:46:44 PM

The journalists of RCTV are desperately asking for help. They feel threatened and say nobody is protecting them. The national guard is still there, but they are saying they are in hiding and feel their lives is threatened.
9:25:40 PM
|
|
I am again hearing planes... I don't know if they can do anything from up there, I also don't know if they are pro or anti Chavez. A person on the official channel is saying that Chavez is being forcefully taken out of the country from the naval base where he is at. he gave the id numbers of the plane and everything. Ooops. The signal went out again. I bet there is fighting in that naval base.

The official channel is back. It seems they just had technical problems.

I feel sorry for the families of the people that died on April 11, it seems their deaths were in vain and more deaths are coming. Of this I am sure, the positions are very radical on both sides. Including the stupidity of not providing news to the people. I have eaten very little today, I am a little fat, He. But I am not hungry...

More confusion
On the official channel, just before it went off, an official of the honor guard, is saying that with him are several secretaries of president Chavez. He is asking for a clear resignation of President Chavez. He wants tangible proof, either Chavez on television, or a signed letter. I have to say that makes sense.
On the other hand, Chavez can't govern Venezuela in peace. Not after the deaths, nor after the hate. Will he realize that? His associates do not...

I don't know what is happening
Again the TV Stations have stop providing information. The Official station is off the air and RCTV has just images (no sound) of the protesters at its doors.

I see trouble ahead
On the official channel they are saying Chavez will be back soon. They are finally talking about getting the country back together. I wonder if that is at all possible.
They have said that the secretaries of Carmona are in jail.
How will the workers union react? If they are still free.
How long until we no longer have private TV stations?

Venezuela Wipes Away Marks of Chávez After a Sudden Fall. Venezuelas interim government has begun to wipe away vestiges of Hugo Chávez's rule following his astoundingly swift fall from power. By Juan Forero. [New York Times: NYT HomePage]
This seem so old now, but its perhaps why we are living what we are living now. In the Official channel, there are ministers of Chavez, saying they will be back in power soon.
Any hope I had, is diminishing quickly

Two thoughts
Would it be possible to do a joint march with leaders pro and anti Chavez for Peace in Venezuela? I think we need some kind of healing process. It seems that the radicals in both groups have taken over and that has to be solved.
Second thought, if that is not possible. Is the threat of violence enough to ask for a (UN, OAS) peacekeeping force?

The signal of one of the private channel has been cut. I wonder if there is violence there. There is a rumor that the Diosdae Cabello the ex Vice President is announcing his return and Chavez return, that would mean civil war.

Sebastian Delmont statement of impartiality, made me think about my own blogging. No, I am not impartial. I have had a feeling of depression during the whole administration of Hugo Chavez. I think instead of progress, there has been regress. That is my opinion. I think it would be better for Venezuela if his project is not follow. I understand there is lots of social injustice in Venezuela, everybody agrees with that. The disagreement is in how to do it. I understand that my position is extremist. Heck, I don't even think taxes are very efective, I don't think the government should own companies. That's my opinion, I know is not held by the majority of venezuelans, I am not trying to force it upon them. I don't think other extremist options, like Chavez, should be force upon us. That is all. We need someone that can balance the extremes and move this country forward.

I can hear the demonstrator now. I have to say I'm terrified.

There are pro Chavez demonstrators at Globovision and Venevision. In both places there are police. I hope the situation doesn't turn violent.

I don't see the National Guard now...
More people are coming, but I don't know if htey are pro or anti Chavez. This is still at RCTV. They seem to be pro Chavez. The National Guard is there.
By the way, both me and Sebastian Demond are being Daved.

The mobs are back
Clearly, the lessons of the last few days have not been learn. RCTV a private TV station, is currently under attack. No police or National Guard is around. Are they afraid? or is this part of a plan to reinstitute Chavez?
It looks like there is going to be a masacre there. All the guilty parties are being filmed.

Army general says Chavez is leaving
An army general has said that there will be a revision to the decisions yesterday. The national assembly is re-instituted, it had been dissolve yesterday. Presumably Chavez will leave the country (to Cuba?). Again the TV stations, irresponsible, are ignoring this information. They have abandon their responsibility.

Unbelievable
Already some radio stations are informing about the pro Chavez demonstrations in the presidential palace. Carmona and his gabinet had left and they have recommended that journalist this. At this point, the are saying that Chavez has not resigned. Chavez is still in jail it seems, it's not clear where. The TV stations are still irresponsible ignoring the news...

Problems continue in Caracas
Both the spanish journal El País and CNN are reporting pro Chavez protests in Caracas. National TV and radio has transmitted very little. I heard an interview with the chief of police saying that the situation was being controlled and advising people to stay at their homes. I have to wonder if the TV channels are blind siding us. They may think it is to avoid further blood shed, but they have been talking so much about the right to know, that it has to be critized. Every noise I hear makes me jump...

After yesterday's optimism, there is a tense calm in Caracas today. People are calling me with rumors of rioting and looting, the ones I've been able to check out have turn out to be false. The television and radio stations, I've check them all, haven't said anything at all. I think this is significant, because I am sure that a small arm group is perfectly capable of domineering a small radio station. I hope nothing bad happens, but it is clear that:
- There is a large group of armed thugs from the Circulos Bolivarianos. These are being hunt down by all police forces, which on one hand may be difficult to avoid and on the other produce arrests and unrest in the streets.
- There are some military personnel that was loyal to Chavez and is not content now. This must be weed out in the days to come.
- We are all edgy and nervous from adrenalin and lack of sleep, so any rumors makes us almost sick to the stomach.
I'm not posting this in the home page on the believe that this is minor, unimportant news that will have little relevance in the shape of things to come...

An elected criminal?
Venezuela's Chief Forced to Resign; Civilian Installed. A transitional government headed by a leading businessman replaced President Hugo Chávez on Friday, hours after military officers forced him to resign. By Juan Forero. [New York Times: NYT HomePage]
The option for venezuelans was between keeping an elected criminal that controlled all government instances and was using government offices and power for unlawful violent activities or doing something outside the institutions. After the deaths there was no doubt. The option, that Cuba would probably support, would be to let us all be killed.
