Cesar Gaviria, the secretary general of the OAS, arrived yesterday allegedly to act as a mediator. My brother have some choice comments for him and the OAS. How bad can you be as a mediator?
Gaviria refuses to meet with the leaders of the revolt in Altamira Square. Man, is that dumb. Yes, they may be trumping constitutional rule, but, even if you think they are wrong, and I certainly think they are, they are a very important party to the current conflict. How can you mediate without talking to them? How can you explain to them they are wrong without talking to them? How do you distance yourselves from one party if you adopt it's line that the other party does not exists?
Perhaps Venezuela should look for a more intelligent mediator. Perhaps Dan Quayle is available...
