I'm not so happy with another article at The Devil's Excrement (He sure wrote up a storm today!). My problem with economic arguments about The Failure of the left
is that they always leave out the interesting fact that most of the world's seven most industrialized nations have protectionist and leftist policies in place. They mention Malasia and other Asian nations, they mention Chile. But they don't mention Italy, Spain, Brazil, Germany and, my favorite, France. Even the US will protect industries when need arise. To me this countries show that labels (left, neo-liberal, right, communist) are worthless. Policies either work or they don't. You can make progress only when ideology doesn't cloud the analysis of your own situation. There are no magic pills. Venezuela has always gotten the worst of all worlds. The government controls the most profitable industries and the workers have no real protection against anything.

Another good article at The Devil's Excrement pointing out that this is the
First violent day while Cesar Gaviria is here. My brother is right to point out how the government is loosing face and control of its violent forces. I predict that it won't be long since this kind of violence is directed at the presidential palace instead of the mayor's. Raise crows and they'll take your eyes out, a popular saying in Venezuela.
