Fish shrinkage threatens survival.
The shrinking size of fish due to their overexploitation has dire
consequences for the recovery of depleted stocks, scientists say. [BBC News | Science/Nature | UK Edition]
interesting example of explotation of a niche as opposed to maximizing
sustained yield of a niche. The article describes genetic
adaptation inside an ecosystem of fish and fishers where the strategies
for natural resource development of fixed assets like minerals is quite
differenct from the natural resource development of living
ecosystems. A difference not unlike the hunter-gather perspective
versus the farming perspective where the famrming perspective values
the location more over the long run and the hunter gatherer just moves
on hoping for another niche to expoloit.
