This oughta be something worth looking forward to: Wallace and Gromit hit the Web. Nick Park, creator of the feature film "Chicken Run," is reviving his original characters in 12 short films to be released online later this year. [CNET News.com]

This is a great article from Pavel (Paul) Kulchenko, one of my collaborators on the Programming Web Services book (shameless plug)

Web Services Acronyms, Demystified. The coauthor of Programming Web Services with SOAP presents a quick guide to the protocols and the specifications behind more than 20 acronyms related to Web services, from SOAP to XLANG, including a description of how they relate to each other and where each sits on the Web services landscape. Sam Ruby and Dave are debating about whether or not WSDL is an essential part of Web services or not.  While I predictably tend to lean more towards Sam's argument, the answer is that in some cases WSDL is important and useful and in other cases it is not.  To hijack the metaphore Sam came up with, different types of bridges require different amounts of cable.  For some applications, all you need is SOAP, for others, you may need a bit more.  WSDL is there for when you need more. It all depends on your requirements.

Dave seems to think this article implies that WSDL isn't going to work.  Problem is, it's already working!  Does it work in every situation? Of course not.  It was never designed to.  Is it perfect?  Of course not.  It was never designed to be.  Don't need it? Don't use it.  I can think of a lot of situations where it would be damned helpful though.

So Dave, am I doing this blogging thing right?

Welcome to Snell's Blog.  Figured I'd give this blogging stuff a spin.  How am I doing so far?

Gotta say, Radio 8.0 is nice.  Good job Userland.
