Security experts on Monday warned of the first self-propagating virus to take advantage of a widespread vulnerability reported last month in Microsoft's Windows operating systems.
Known by various names, including Blaster and Lovesan, the worm virus has begun to infect computers at homes and businesses and could clog the Internet with traffic and allow a malicious hacker to steal or corrupt data stored in an infected system, experts said.

Is there any advantage in having been ahead of the crowd now that just about every telecommunications company is rushing into the Wi-Fi wireless world? Wayport, a pioneer in installing high-speed Internet access in hotels and airports, is about to find out.
Wayport, based in Austin, Tex., is a name known to thousands of laptop-toting business travelers. It started providing wireless Internet connections in 2000 with the popular Wi-Fi networking standard in airports including Dallas-Fort Worth, Seattle, and San Jose, Calif. Even earlier, Wayport had placed wired broadband connections in hotels around the country, which it now often complements with Wi-Fi in common areas.

Security software specialist Zone Labs has bought IMsecure to capitalize on the growing problem of security flaws in instant messaging software, the company announced Tuesday.
IMsecure has developed IMsecure Pro 1.0 to detect viruses and block spam for the most popular messaging applications on the market--AOL Instant Messenger, MSN Messenger and Yahoo Messenger, said Fred Felman, vice president of marketing at Zone.
