Apple sample code: Moriarity “shows how to implement a Cocoa GUI that wraps command-line functionality, calling out to a UNIX task and presenting the results in the GUI to the user... The command-line functionality demonstrated in this case is ‘locate’—a command that builds a database of files on the system for searching, a la Sherlock.” (Editors note: Sherlock Holmes’ evil nemesis was named Moriarty. Why Apple spelled it with an extra i before the t is a matter of intense speculation.) [mac.scripting.com]
I wonder if it's any faster than Sherlock. Sherlock is fine on OS 9 but is painfully slow on OS X on my machine. It would probably be faster if I had X on a separate partition.
