All Come to Look for America: Pop on Sept. 11. International Herald Tribune Dec 27 2001 9:27AM ET [Arts and culture news]

I still haven't heard the Neil Young tune and from what I read here it's probably the only one I'm interested in hearing.

Zingg! 1.0 launches apps via contextual menu. [mac.scripting.com]
Freeware. We like that. A handy little utility by the looks of things.

MacSlash: Palm posts Beta version of Palm Desktop for OS X. This reporter is pleased by the news. [mac.scripting.com]
Huge sigh of relief. I hate booting into OS 9 and have only done it about twice in the last couple of months. I'm keen to get this software working on my machine but think I might wait a few days. I have to update OS X first to get the irda port working and I need a fast connection to do that. That means I'm waiting until I get back to work. Also, it's often a good thing to sit back and let others blow up their machines first to get the real problems out of the way. Watch the user feedback come in and when things are tidied up, then go ahead. I'm usually not this cautious.

BTW, I had to take off my shoes going through security for the flight down to San Diego. Luckily I was wearing clean socks. This was my first plane trip since Sept 11. The security at SJO was awesome. The line streteched down to baggage claim. People kept their sense of humor. It moved fast. The best security perhaps was that everyone got to know each other. On the flight home last night I had a fantasy of a Saudi fanatic hiding in the Santa Cruz Mountains with a Stinger missile. We landed safely anyway.   [Scripting News]
What it's like to be an American these days. Yikes. Another thing for the preboard checklist: "clean socks".

Thomas Friedman: "If everybody flew naked, not only would you never have to worry about the passenger next to you carrying box cutters or exploding shoes, but no religious fundamentalists of any stripe would ever be caught dead flying nude, or in the presence of nude women, and that alone would keep many potential hijackers out of the skies."  [Scripting News]
Following an attempt by someone to board a transatlantic flight with a bomb in his shoe.
