News: CD prices set to take a plunge Shoppers may think they have seen enough bargains this holiday season, but CDs at $9.99 may soon be a standard offer at music stores as retailers slash prices in bid to battle the scourge of online music piracy.

A rather confusing article. I thought they were saying the price of the CD was going to drop but the only evidence they site is that retailers have montrous sales on at the moment. What's up?

Here in TO the main SAM's store has been selling off everything in the store at 40% off. Ouch. Having SAM's go bankrupt can't be helping any other retailers.

"Charlotte Gray". Gillian Armstong's latest triumph is a juicy melodrama starring a stunning Cate Blanchett. [Salon.com]
Oh dear. I'm going to have to see this one as well. So many movies to see.

Art and science worlds at odds. Boston Globe Dec 29 2001 5:46AM ET [Arts and culture news]
A misleading headline. The article is actually about David Hockney's book on artists using lenses to aid in their painting . . . going back hundreds of years.

Sandy mentions this theory every so often. Of course he would approve of these techniques. And why not?

If the world is right, having a browser-based way to edit content will be as basic a feature for a Web server as Undo became for word processors. Think about it. Go dig into the Qube and see where Apache stopped evolving and think about the role its opensourceness played in its complacence. [Scripting News]
I just think this is so wrong and I have thought so ever since Dave started talking about it. A browser is for browsing. I'm writing this in a browser right now and it's ridiculous. What about your splendid outliner in Radio or Frontier? That's where I want to be writing; where there are writing tools available. I know you love your Qube Dave but I'm not trying to configure a server once and let it go. I'm trying to communicate fluidly.

Now because this is Dave one has to be careful and add that we really love and appreciate all that he has done in bringing his groundbreaking tools to the world. But on this point I respectfully disagree.
