Homemade Dot-Mac with OS X, Part 2. O’Reilly: “Jaguar has made significant improvements to aspects of Mac OS X. These features make setting up a home Web server easier and more powerful than ever, and I’ll touch on some of them while digging deeper into the homemade Dot-Mac project.” [ranchero.com]

Bush hawks commandeer 9/11 hearings. Congress tries to ask why U.S. intelligence failed to predict the attacks, but Wolfowitz and Armitage only want to talk about why we must invade Iraq. [Salon.com]

For Noelle Bush, a different kind of justice. In Florida, drug offenders face hard time -- unless you have money or connections. [Salon.com]

Washed in the Sound of Souls in Transit. John Adams's work dealing with Sept. 11 received its premiere on Thursday night at the first subscription concert of the Philharmonic's season. By Anthony Tommasini. [New York Times: Arts]

Havana to Unlock Hemingway Papers. The Cuban government has agreed to allow access to a trove of Ernest Hemingway's papers that experts say promises to illuminate the period in which he wrote some of his most significant works. By Kate Zernike. [New York Times: Arts]

John Eriksen pointed out some hilarious "Switcher" ad take-offs:

  1. Jason Gottlieb's Home Page
  2. Lucas Sibbernsen
  3. LegoSwitch 1.1
[Macintouch]
Cute. The 3rd one has great production quality even if it's a bit less compelling. The 2nd one is quite funny. Of course you'll need Quicktime.

Wired: "Crowley set up a website called iCalshare.com, a clearinghouse for sharing calendars created with Apple's new iCal calendaring program, which allows people to publish calendars online."  [Scripting News] "The result has been an explosion of calendars for every kind of event, no matter how esoteric."
The power of the net.

BBC: "Californian authorities have decided against prosecuting former astronaut Buzz Aldrin after he punched a documentary maker who claimed his moon missions were faked."  [Scripting News]
OK, I don't advocate punching people. But it must have felt awfully good to take a swing at someone who is so self-delusional . . . or just plain stupid.

Tonight (20 Sept 2002) I got to hear the new sound of Roy Thomson Hall. It was a pretty exciting sneak preview. Read my first impressions as well.

Radio Tip: A friend wanted to know how to get the Google search to work on a given URL (such as mine here, searching all of my Radio goodness). Google is by far the best search engine at the moment, and all of my content is re-indexed every 48 hours. That's hard to beat - especially for the price.

It took me about 45 minutes to get it "just right", but the overall code to do the search takes only 5 minutes and doesn't cost a thing.

Here's the link to get started.

Hawks in a box. Flummmoxed by Saddam's latest move, Bush's Iraq hawks are desperately trying to find a way to justify an invasion anyway -- but they're just flapping their wings. [Salon.com]

[19:55 ET]  Apple's Security Update 2002-09-20 patches the following security hole:

This update fixes a potential vulnerability introduced in Terminal version 1.3 (v81) that shipped with Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) which could allow an attacker to remotely execute arbitrary commands on the user's system.
The Terminal utility is updated to version 1.3.1 (v82) with this Security Update.
Affected systems: Mac OS X systems with Terminal version 1.3 (v81) Earlier shipping versions of Terminal do not have this vulnerability.
System requirements: Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar)
