Matthew Boehm (and other readers) noted the Mac's success at code-cracking
I was surprised to see that no one mentioned the RC5-64 contest came to its
completion on the 25th. The key was found by a P3-450 in Tokyo. Took 1,757
days to find. What is really nice is this statistic:
"Our peak rate of 270,147,024 kkeys/sec is equivalent to 32,504 800MHz Apple
PowerBook G4 laptops or 45,998 2GHz AMD Athlon XP machines."
That is very comforting to know it takes an additional 13,000 2GHz Athlons
to equal the power of 32,000 800Mhz G4s. Eat that 'Megahertz Myth'.

As you know, when you double-click a document, a specific application
that "owns" that file type will open. You can change the document/application
relationship using Get Info, but Jaguar has a very convenient short cut.
Select any document and bring up the contextual menu (control-click or right
button click if you have a multi-button mouse) and you should see "Open
With" that shows a list of applications that can open that type of
document. [Ken Bereskin's Radio Weblog]

Hear, hear for the sonic boon
By ROBERT EVERETT-GREEN
-- Listening in this hall has become a much wider experience. There's so much more information at the extremes of the sonic spectrum, and so much more character in the tones. Who knew before this week that there were such fat, grainy timbres hiding in the woodwind section? Did anyone realize what a terrific sheen the TSO brasses can have?FULL STORY [The Globe and Mail: Arts] Excellent. The critics continue to get it right.
