Thorpe bests Phelps and gives Games a jolt

Great swimmers have dominated past Olympics all by themselves. What a thing, though, to have three of them, in their prime, in the same pure-speed event, standing together in the three centre lanes, Mr. Thorpe and Mr. Phelps already with a gold medal each here, and Mr. Phelps with a world record already in hand. That approach is a far cry from the one that is taken in U.S. states like Oklahoma, where a person caught smoking dope could get up to a year in prison, although probation is more common.'
