Tiger - Likes
This could be a long list. But I'll just toss out a few for now.
When an app crashes what you usually really want to do is just reopen the darn thing. The error message tossed out to the user includes that option now. In fact it gets the default button.
Unlike many other people I actually like the idea that the whole tool bar (apart from the buttons) in Mail can be used to drag windows around. I also love smart folders in Mail. I have a folder of them called Action and inside are Flagged, Unseen, and Today.
Spotlight. But I don't quite have a handle on it yet. Why does it not find things in the Library for example? Ditto for Smart Folders. Perhaps I need to read some more.
The Translator Widget. And the Dictionary functionality. In Mail or Safari try command-option-D while hovering over a word. Move your mouse around. Sweet!
Safari is faster now, so much so that I've stopped using Firefox. Actually this happened a couple of weeks before Tiger came out with a Safari update. Nice!
Snappier, smoother. I find the system more responsive in general and dragging and dropping in Mail, for example, is much smoother. Fantastic. I'm on a 1.5 Gig G4 15" Powerbook by the way.
Birthdays. A calendar is automatically generated in iCal (if you turn on the pref) from info in your Address Book. Time for some data entry!

10.4: Add fonts to the Stickies widget
The stickies widget comes with a choice of fonts -- click the "i" button to get the pop-up on the back of the sticky. While it's nice to have choices, there really aren't many there.
So to add your favorite font to the Stick...

Missing Items Post Tiger Install
I always forget about this. After a major upgrade many things need to be reset. For example my Microsoft Mouse software stops working and needs to be reinstalled. And for some idiotic reason the software install forces you to restart! I'll get around to that eventually.
A quick visit to Google Mac helps.
There was a very groovy Service which worked wonders on text which I've just realized is missing. macosxhints tipped me off in the first place and that's how I found it again. Malformed link there. Here's what we want: WordService from Devon Technologies.
I had a contextual menu item which would appear in the Finder that allowed me to convert any graphic file from one format to another. Also MIA. Here is is. Take Pixture Studio's free QuickImage CM. I first heard about it from Rob Griffith's macosxhints. Interesting . . . the first photo in the ReadMe is of the skyline of Toronto.
Stuffit Expander will not boot. I had to reinstall. Download here. No need to enter contact info. There will be more but that's it for this evening.

Google Fun
I somehow missed the fact that you could set preferences for yourself at Google. I guess that's how it knew I wanted to go to the .ca version of the site. For example you can set the Interface Language. Mine was set to English and I was curious to see if there were variations such as Canadian English. The answer is "no". However, you can choose Elmer Fudd!

iSync Tip
I've always gotten a "Device Full" error when trying to sync my Sony Ericsson T637. I don't have that problem solved yet. I gather from reading in Apple Discussions that this may have to do with old To Do items. I don't want to transfer any of my To Do items but there doesn't appear to be an option to opt out of this. And I don't want to delete my old To Do items because I find it useful to search through these from time to time.
But I said this was a tip. OK. In an attempt to reduce the amount of data going to my phone I've chosen to select only certain calendars to sync. The problem is that in iSync I can only see the first 4 calendars and there's no scroll bar! How do I deselect the other calendars?
On a hunch I moved my mouse over list of calendars and moved the scroll wheel on the mouse. Ta da!
