Podcasters Need Double-Enders
OK, maybe this is happening already. I've only listened to a couple of podcasts - I really don't have the time to hand over to a couple of nerds who don't have a clue about radio or sound saying "oh, am I breaking up? Can you hear me? Should I reboot?" Terrible music. One speaker is too loud.
But that's not what this is about. Here's the thing. Why am I listening to one person mic'd locally and the other over a synthetic sounding, breaking up VOIP type person? Both parties need to record themselves locally. The interviewee sends their audio to the interviewer. The interviewer syncs up the two recordings and there you have it: locally recorded sound for both people without the crappy audio of a VOIP connection.

Fantastic new podcast for radio freelancers
I’m always happy to plug AIR (the Association of Independents in Radio) — like Transom.org and PRX.org, they provide a fantastic resource for people new to radio.
Now, AIR is producing a podcast specifically for radio freelancers. The first episode has a great interview with the operations director at WNYC all about public radio’s role in podcasting and the possibility that public radio stations will compete with each other. You can subscribe to the AIRpod podcast RSS feed.

Government survives two confidence votes

By a razor-thin margin, Paul Martin's minority government survived a confidence vote late Thursday afternoon, staving off a snap election. FULL STORY
[Via CBC News]

That was close. Olivia, when we realized the vote was on, said "Oh I have to watch this. I'm learning about government." We watched on tv although I missed the moment of drama (the vote of the independent) my a moment. The vote was 152 to 152 with the speaker breaking the tie and voting with the government, as is the tradition. Olivia noted the numbers and said "But there are 308 MPs!" Hmmm. I have to look into that. There's a by-election next week apparently so that accounts for one of them. Cait called shortly after the vote with her analysis of the situation. My girls are engaged in this stuff!

MacKay ‘shocked' by Stronach defection

“You know, I wish her the best, I really do,” deputy Conservative leader says
[Via The Globe and Mail - National News]
Oh dear. Poor Peter. (I'm not being sarcastic) Jilted lover's story all over the front page. The coverage in the Globe today was, I thought, over the top.

Accordion Guy: "If you check the right-wing pundits, you'll see that a number of them have commented negatively about the unsubtle jabs that Revenge of the Sith takes at the Bush administration."

I've never thought much of the Star Wars films but I think much less of the Bush administration.

Canadian discount airline adds live TV
WestJet, Bell ExpressVu and LiveTV just announced that all 39 of WestJet's Boeing Next-Generation 737-700 aircraft are now equipped with live satellite television.
WestJet is the first and only airline in Canada to offer an in-flight TV service that can be individually controlled by each guest from their own seat. WestJet's complimentary satellite TV service offers a selection of up to 24 television channels from Bell ExpressVu in every seatback on all of WestJet's 737-700 aircraft, including news, sports, music, children's and

Hmmm. Satellite radio anyone? They are offering just a selection of their main service. They should include some of what Galaxie has to offer.
