Business Week, of all places, has a clear-headed analysis of the dead-end that the music industry has driven itself into.   [via Scripting News]

//  From melodicrock.com in its entirety since Andrew doesn't have any anchors, three tidbits worth sharing:

THE SAMMY AND DAVE TOUR GATHERS MOMENTUM:
I mentioned this rumour to a few friends last week, who laughed themselves silly, but here you go - truth is stranger than fiction:
Confirmed today by Sammy Hagar's website - www.redrocker.com:
"Believe it or not Sammy & David Lee Roth are talking about touring this summer! Sammy was blown away at how well they got along together. Sammy said "If this happens, this would have to be the party of a lifetime!!"
I have a little more info to add - the idea on the table is to have a dual headliners tour. The concept is only a couple of weeks old and I was told that it was supposed to be top secret until a deal was struck. Maybe that has now been accomplished.
The plan thus far is for each of the guys to do a set of their own material with their own bands and then they would jam at the end of the night together.
More info as it comes to hand. And yes....the Van Halen story did just get even more complicated.

JIM PETERIK ADDS BONUS LIVE CD TO CHARITY RELEASE:
Jim Peterik's
September 11th tribute release The Day America Cried has been featured here previously. But coming up in May, the CD will be made available as a limited edition Double CD Set.
The bonus CD is a live disc, recorded at one of Jim's World Stage shows.
The track listing (and featured vocalist) for the live CD is: Eye Of The Tiger (Jim Peterik & Jeff Boyle) . Hold On Loosely (Don Barnes of 38 Special & Jim Peterik) . Sister Christian (Kelly Keagy of Night Ranger) . I Can't Hold Back (Kevin Chalfant of The Storm/Two Fires) . The Search Is Over (Brian Anders & Kelly Moulik) . Vehicle (Buddy Guy & Jim Peterik) . I've Got A Lot To Learn About Love (Kevin Chalfant) . Between Two Fires (Kevin Cronin of REO Speedwagon & Jim Peterik) . Heavy Metal (Kelly Keagy)(Yes, Jim wrote that tune with Sammy Hagar!) . Rockin' Into The Night (Don Barnes & Jim Peterik) and the original version of Vehicle by The Ides Of March.
More details on this release shortly.

RICK SPRINGFIELD STILL SET ON RECORDING THIS YEAR:
Rick Springfield
dropped me a line to say G'Day...EFX Alive is going great guns in Las Vegas, but the singer/songwriter is still hard at work on new material, saying that he hopes to release by the end of the year.
