The other good thing about my room change is losing this annoying French roommate in "5" that slept from nine at night 'till five in the morning every day. I have earplugs, so the early riser thing doesn't bother me, but it sucks to stumble around your own room in the dark when it's still the early evening. Also he didn't talk ... to anyone, even if you addressed him directly. And don't blame the language barrier, because even the other French guy had the same experience trying to talk to him.

Actually he would be gone even if I hadn't moved, Stefano the manager "transferred" him to our sister hostel for being anti-social. We run a tight ship at the Adelaide -- remember the drunk Irish guy who also got the boot a while back? I don't wish for anyone to get kicked out, though. I think weekly residents are under more scrutiny, just because you're not supposed to really stay there TOO long. A lot of hostels have maximum stay lengths, or you need to show proof of travel plans.

I'm moving up in the world! Last night I moved from room 5 to room D to accomodate some school group that's taking up the whole top floor. I now enjoy such luxuries as: (I really like lists)

  • A split room! Now I have only one immediate roommate.
  • A sink with one faucet so you can control the temperature of the water. As Matt points out, this is even better than at home in Waterloo. Also, I can get to the sink without squeezing between the bunks and the wall.
  • A better view ... of the alley.
