Residential "broadband" internet access (with Rogers, Bell Sympatico, etc.) sure is great ... until you actually come to depend on it for something important!
Our CS342 programming assignment was due today at 6pm. I was working on it at home (as usual) this afternoon, mostly using my local computer environment. However, as the deadline grew nearer, my attempts to upload my code to the school computers for submission were being foiled by spotty network connectivity. Eventually, I gave up, got in the car, drove to the math building, took my laptop into the lab, and "handed-in" the assignment over the school wireless network. I drove all the way to school at the last minute, not because I needed computing resources located there, but because it was the closest working internet service provider! How ridiculous is that ?
