Today I had a huge laptop scare: my new computer was just sitting there on the desk when I heard an awful noise coming from the hard drive as the Windows desktop changed to a blue screen of death. I rebooted and saw the message "Primary boot device 0 not found."
It took me about half an hour in the Dell phone maze to talk to a technician in Canada. Her first suggestion was to reseat the disk, which I never even thought of, and it worked! I don't know how the disk came loose while the machine was just sitting on my desk, but the computer now booted perfectly. I ran the HDD diagnostic tool off the Dell system utilities CD and everything was fine.
So my impressions of Dell support so far are:
BAD: Need better integration between Canada/US services. (My service tag didn't even come up on the canadian rep's computer)
BAD: Touch-tone menu is slow / Hold time was about 10min
GOOD: Solved problem immediately over the phone.
