Hello world! I'm on the CalTrain right now on my way back to SF from Redwood City, CA. Yesterday I bought a C/Port II on ebay, which will let me use a regular keyboard and mouse and monitor with my laptop when I’m at my desk. Today I went to pick it up in order to save the shipping. Actually, since I had to pay for the train ticket ($5.50), something to eat at Starbucks (where we met, $2), and three hours of my time ($75), saving the $12 shipping wasn't a very good reason. On the other hand, what else to I have to do on Saturday?
Oracle's headquarters is in Redwood City, and I walked right by the “campus.” Since Matt was having Oracle software problems earlier, I gave him a call from Oracle’s lawn. Probably everyone knows this, but the Oracle buildings are all shaped like the database schematic symbol (a cylinder). It was pretty cool. I’d also like to go see the Netscape building in Mountain View and Google, VMWare, etc, etc, etc ... One day I’ll work at a "real" company :)
Oracle wasn’t really on the way to the Nob Hill shopping center where I was supposed to meet "Aboo" the seller, but I lost the map, and had to wander around for a bit. Using mapquest I carefully plotted out directions, but something was wrong with the office printer, so I just left the map on my screen and ran for the 1PM train. When I got off in sunny Redwood City, I opened my computer and pressed the power button to wake it up from suspended mode. Because of the glare from the sun, I didn’t realize that the computer was actually still on, and pressing the power button actually turned it off, thus losing the map! Luckily I remembered enough to get me to the mall (eventually), and the seller was kind enough to drive me back to the station.
I hope you guys find this stuff entertaining!
Update: (Back at the office) Arg! I this damn thing takes a *different* kind of AC adaptor!
