Salon.com has an AP report on people demanding that real-life coroner's investigators and forensic scientists carry out the same tests that they see on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and CSI: Miami, and other crime shows. The problem is that the labs on the shows have no budget constraints, hugely faster turn around time and can use any equipment the writers think of, even if it does not exist.

On the other hand DNA testing is very useful in some cases.
