The Matrix Revolutions had an opening domestic weekend gross of $50.16 million, off 45 percent from The Matrix Reloaded $91.8 million debut in May. A worldwide release in 109 countries did produce a record breaking $204.1 million gross and it is expected that the weekly grosses for The Matrix Revolutions will not fall as steeply as for the he Matrix Reloaded.

Meanwhile, the Hurly-Burly scene with hundred of computer generated Agent Smiths does not seem any more realistic when watching The Matrix Reloaded on DVD.

The New York Times looks at some of the causes of poor-quality video on DVDs. Badly damaged mastered and poorly done transfers from film to the highly compressed MPEG-2 DVD format are some of the problems.

Another problem not discussed is that sometimes the framing of the image on your television set is incorrectly done resulting in elements in the picture that should be visible are cropped out. The initial release of the widescreen transfers on Back to the Future II and Back to the Future III in last year’s Back to the Future trilogy release suffered from this problem and the distributor had to allow exchanges for a corrected version.
