Peter Jackson director of the Lord of the Rings trilogy has expressed interest in producing a film version of The Hobbit following completion of his work on a remake of King Kong.

The Hobbit would make a good standalone movie. The fall of Melkor, the rise and fall of Numenor and the defeat of Sauron by the Last Alliance would make a good trilogy.
